Benjamin Knopp

Ben Knopp serves as the Director of Innovation at Innova Building Advisors and Senior Consultant for the Mid-Atlantic region. With a passion for advancing high-performance affordable housing, Ben is dedicated to integrating cutting-edge research, development, and best practices into the industry. He employs a holistic systems approach to the design and implementation of advanced building enclosures and mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems.

With over 20 years of experience spanning building construction, energy auditing, building science consulting, and high-performance mechanical system design and commissioning, Ben is a recognized leader in the field. He is a 2021 Fellow of the Clean Energy Leadership Institute, a 2019 Innovator with the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory’s IMPEL+ Program, and a 2016 winner of the Oak Ridge National Laboratory JUMP Innovation Contest. Ben also invented, built, tested, and patented a groundbreaking water heating technology.

Ben is a Certified Energy Manager (CEM) with the Association of Energy Engineers, a PHIUS+ Verifier and Certified Passive House Consultant, a RESNET Certified Home Energy Rater, and a Virginia Licensed Residential Building Energy Analyst. Additionally, he is an accredited Verifier for ENERGY STAR, Zero Energy Ready Homes, and Indoor airPLUS programs and is a certified EarthCraft Technical Advisor.
